What is Watch D.O.G.S.?

Watch D.O.G.S. (Dads Of Great Students) is an innovative program of the National Center for Fathering focused on improving education in our nation's schools by using the influence of fathers and father-figures to provide a positive & active male role-model for students during their school day.

Who Are Watch D.O.G.S.?

WatchDOGS are fathers, grandfathers, uncles, and other father-figures who volunteer for at least one day each year at an official WATCH D.O.G.S. school. During the day, WatchDOGS may read and work on flash cards with students, play at recess, eat lunch with students, watch the school entrances and hallways, assist with traffic flow and any other assigned activities where they actively engage with not only their own students, but other students as well. Prior to the day of their participation, WatchDOGS are given a schedule of their involvement. On their service day they are to wear an official WATCH D.O.G.S t-shirt safely identifying them as WATCHDOGS.

Midway Watch D.O.G.S.!

At Midway Elementary a WatchDog dad starts his day bright and early at 7:30am!  We meet in the Midway lobby, wearing our official WATCHDOGS T-shirt, and get ready to greet our amazing Midway students by assisting with the carpool line.  Next, we head over to the Midway News room where you get to address your new 600 plus fans.  After the newsroom, your adventure into the academics begins.  Your journey will include helping a teacher in your child’s classroom and rotating to other classrooms where teachers need your assistance. Around mid-day, you will join your child(ren) for lunch and to help monitor in the lunchroom. You will end your WatchDOGS day after eating lunch with your child.

If you would still like to be a part of the WatchDogs Dad program for this year, we would love to have you volunteer at our school.  Just complete a registration form (link to pdf below), send it in with your student along with $20 for an official WD Uniform T-shirt (if you haven’t already purchased one). We will send you a link for Sign-Up Genius, so you can sign up to volunteer on a day that will work for you.
